  • Why does a student need a medical application mentor?
With the medical admissions landscape having dramatically changed in the past decade, getting into a competitive medical program has become increasingly difficult. Rules have changed. Advice and strategies that were once relevant no longer apply leaving students feeling confused and overwhelmed. The purpose of an application mentor is to support students throughout the various intricacies of medical application journey. Specifically, a medical school application mentor will virtually help students strategically plan their approach to a successful medical school admission. Academically, an application mentor teaches students how to manage their time efficiently, choose challenging courses and develop a strong study ethic. Outside of the classroom a mentor encourages students to explore and develop their interests and passions. A mentor will also help students locate and apply for meaningful and unique volunteer & research positions within their communities. Our mentors help students build unique and diverse resumes, and they also help students prepare for their CASPer test & MMIs.
  • What packages do you offer?
Because every student has a different application profile, catering to our students needs is at the core of what we do. Our goal is to offer one-on-one mentorship and support on services that are centered around each student’s individual needs and not the other way around. For high schools students we offer a Junior Mentoring Package that offers leadership & passion project support, extracurriculars development, volunteer placement support & academic tutoring. For CEGEP & University students we offer more comprehensive packages such as the Mentoring Package & the Premium Mentoring Package. For students needing support on a specific application components we also offer an “à la carte” option.
  • Are sessions in-person or online?
Sessions with your application mentor are done virtually via zoom meetings. Sessions vary between 60-90 minutes depending on how much student & mentor need to get done. Sessions can take place anywhere between once a week to once every two weeks to once a month depending on the strategy established by the mentor.
  • When should students reach start prepping for their medical school application?
It’s never too early for students to start prepping for their medical school application. If you are a high school student there are things you can start working on that will help bolster your application when the time comes. If you are a CEGEP or university student, ideally the summer before your first Fall semester is a great time to touch base with a mentor in order to create a strategic plan. The more time you give yourself to map out the months before your application the better off you’ll be.
  • Are parents allowed to join virtual mentoring sessions?
We recommend parents join the first introductory Onboarding Session. The Onboarding Session is a great way for mentor, student and parents to get to know each other as well as to set expectations and discuss any questions or concerns that may arise. Parents are welcome to attend any following meeting, however we find that when we meet with students one-on-one, students tend to perform better and are better able to connect with their mentor. We are happy to communicate with parents about any questions, concerns and progress.
  • How does GritGoals Education match student with mentor?
The Onboarding Session takes place between the student and GritGoals Education founder Alizée. Once a strategy plan is explored and put in place, depending on the services needed/ package selected, either Alizée works one-on-one with the student or the student will be matched with a specific mentor.
